We developed the SiBox Demonstration Module to prove our proprietary thermal energy storage media could deliver reliable, 24/7 high-temperature heat.

Developing this demonstration module has also been an important step towards commercialising a complete, scalable energy storage system for industry.

How was it developed? 

The SiBox Demonstration Module is the culmination of over a decade of research and development by 1414 Degrees in silicon-based latent heat thermal energy storage. 

It was built in our dedicated research and development space, backed by strategic industry and university collaborators who provided specialised skills and experience. 

The project was supported by funding from an Australian Government Modern Manufacturing Initiative grant and Woodside Energy Technologies.  

What did the testing prove?

The SiBox testing demonstrated several key capabilities of our storage technology.

    • Consistent high-temperature performance: the SiBox system reliably delivers clean process heat up to 900°C, showcasing its flexibility and efficiency.
    • Robust long-term performance: 12 months of rigorous demonstration module testing confirmed SiBox offers a competitive solution for the long-duration energy storage market, particularly for industrial heat applications and grid stability.
    • Scalability and stability: SiBricks have proven to perform effectively, at scale, within an operating environment; maintaining robustness and stability while providing clean heat.
    • Reduced technical risk: testing has minimised the technical risks associated with multi-module SiBox installations involving more than 10,000 SiBricks.
    • Advanced technology readiness: successful results have advanced our Technology Readiness Level (TRL) from 4 to 7, in preparation for commercial operations.
