13 June 2024: Woodside-backed 1414 Degrees launches hydrogen production project
A $1 million contribution from Woodside – a leading Australian oil and gas company – will kickstart ASX-listed 1414 Degrees’ hydrogen generation ambitions. Announced today, the contribution will help fund 1414 Degrees’ SiPHyR project, designed to produce hydrogen and solid carbon via a process called methane pyrolysis.

Silicon energy storage company 1414 Degrees has signed a term sheet that will see its Aurora Energy Precinct at Port Augusta in South Australia access the ElectraNet 275kV Hill-to-Hill power line connecting to the National Electricity Market. The company’s 50 percent owned joint venture with Vast Renewables, SiliconAurora Pty Ltd signed a term sheet with Vast Solar and BHP subsidiary, OZ Minerals with the intention of making a binding agreement by 30 September, 2024. Oz Minerals is the sole customer utilising the power line.
9 April 2024: Reborn solar thermal and battery project seeks deal to plug in to transmission line to BHP mines
Australian clean energy technology companies Vast Renewables and 1414 Degrees say they entered into negotiations to gain access to transmission lines to connect their planned big battery and solar thermal projects. Vast, a developer of concentrated solar power (CSP) technology, and 1414 Degrees (14D), a silicon thermal heat storage company,entered into an agreement back in mid-2022 to co-develop the Aurora Energy Project.
2 April 2024: SiBox testing completed, 1414 Degrees moves toward commercialisation
1414 Degrees announced its relocation to the Tonsley Innovation District following the completion of the demonstration phase of its SiBox thermal energy storage project, marking a significant step towards commercialisation. The SiBox Demonstration Module achieved several milestones, including the delivery of continuous clean heat from stored thermal energy at temperatures ranging from 650°C to 900°C, the company said in an ASX announcement.
13 November 2023: Woodside boosts investment in molten silicon energy storage hopeful
Oil and gas major Woodside has tipped more money into Adelaide energy storage minnow 1414 Degrees (14D), increasing its bet on the company’s molten silicon energy storage and industrial heat solution. 1414 said on Monday that Woodside Energy Technologies had increased its funding of 14D’s SiBox Demonstration Module (SDM) by $US750,000, taking the total funding to $US2.75 million.

Adelaide based 1414 Degrees says it has successfully commissioned the first demonstration module of its SiBox proprietary molten silicon energy storage solution – a key milestone in the fledgling company’s funding deal with gas giant Woodside. 1414 Degrees has developed a complete thermal energy storage system that uses its proprietary silicon-based storage technology, SiBrick, installed within the SiBox to safely and efficiently store renewable electricity as latent heat.
