We’re pleased to announce we’ve signed a Heads of Agreement with an Australian data centre operator to develop up to 1 GW of AI data centre infrastructure at our Aurora Energy Precinct in South Australia, anchored on Aurora’s firmed renewable generation and storage assets.
The operator has been granted exclusivity over an initial 40-hectare parcel within Aurora’s 15.8 km² landholding, which offers long-term tenure, up to 900 MW of solar generation potential, an approved 140 MW / 280 MWh battery energy storage system, high-voltage connection infrastructure, and access to fibre and water.
We’re proposing the development in three stages: an indicative 17 MW starter campus using the 33kV connection we announced last week, a 200 MW anchor campus once the 275kV transmission line is connected, and a longer-term pathway to gigawatt scale as Aurora’s renewable generation is progressively built out. The modular data centre technology involved is designed to work with renewable generation and storage, and can be relocated or replaced as technology evolves.
Under the proposed structure, we would provide the development parcel, power and connectivity, while our partner would bring the capital, technical expertise and operating capability to deploy and run the infrastructure. We intend to negotiate definitive agreements covering land access, behind-the-meter renewable energy, battery storage, grid connection and precinct services, and we’ll continue working with SA Power Networks, ElectraNet and other stakeholders to progress connection arrangements.
This partnership adds to the momentum building around Aurora and the wider Australian market: major AI infrastructure companies, including Anthropic, have publicly flagged requirements for 500 MW-plus sites in Australia, and other global technology companies have recently signed renewable power agreements to support their own data centre operations here — trends that speak well to Aurora’s commercial position.
